Breathing Air Filter

The breathing air filter is used to clean or to purify the compressed air inside the sandblaster’s helmet, painter respirator, and in the welder’s shield. The filter also removes the condensate, compressor oil vapors, and minor mechanical particles up to 0.5 mkn with the help of its multilayer filtration.

A Breathing Air Filter is used for the safety of the operator while using Sand Blasting Machine. The air filter also removes moisture, oil, dirt particles before it reaches the operator. Its multilayer filtration contains activated charcoal to get rid of bad odors and also increase the “air quality” for breathing.

This filter is can also be used with Dust collectors and with other safeguards like sandblasting helmets, operator suits, and hand gloves. It is designed to remove condensate and particles up to 0.5 microns or less. At a time four operators can use this filter.

Parts of Breathing Air Filter:

1.)  Inlet coupling: Inlet couplings are connected at the center of the filter body. Inlet coupling ensures leak-free flow between the compressor and filter body. They ensure that flow is unrestricted and avoid heat losses.

2.)  Breather cap: The breather cap is of a rounded cap shape. The breather cap is designed to maintain the internal air pressure of tanks on which they are mounted. They can prevent alteration in air pressure.

3.)  Outlet coupling: Outlet coupling is connected to a breather cap. They are 4 in quantity and further, these coupling will connect to the air conditioner of the helmet and four operators can operate at a time of blasting.

4.)  Cap handle: The cap handle is connected to the breather cap so that we can move the filter at our desired place or job location. Handle make the filter easy to operate.

5.)  O-rubber ring: O-rubber ring is mounted between the breather cap and filter body to make the filter leak-proof so that there is no loss of any gases and fresh air is supplied to the operator

6.)  Filter body: The filter body is made of tough metal sheet and cylindrical so that it can protect the filter with outer damage and an inlet, the coupling is connected to the filter and from that coupling compressed air will enter inside the filter.

7.)  Air filter cartridge: The Air Filter cartridge contains seven layers of the filter medium and this seven-layer helps to remove micro and macroparticles, water, oil. Bad odor. The seven-layer will work in this order:

  • First layer remove water and moisture by the action of cyclone air or by the drainer valve
  • Then carded cotton removes the toxic particles
  •  After the cotton layer activated alumina absorbs oil and moisture.
  •  Then activated Charcoal will remove the bad odor.
  • Carded cotton will remove the macroparticles too.
  • Other macro particles will remove by activated charcoal.
  • Now 98% of air impurity will get remove and the operator can inhale the fresh and pure air.

All seven-layer are sealed in a corrosion-proof plastic a case so that there is no need to use a gasket.

8.)  Drain valve: The drain valve is connected at the bottom of the filter body. Drain valve help to remove the moisture inside the filter so that the density of air gets reduce and the operator does not feel suffocated.

9.)  Filter foot: The filter foot is connected at the base of the air filter. The legs are three in quantity. The foot is used so that the filter can mount in floor mounted or wall mounted position or in a freestanding position.

10.)  Air regulator: An Air regulator is used to measuring the air the pressure inside the filter so that we can control the air pressure and regulate the filter pressure as per requirement.

Working of Air Breather Filter:

  1. Compressed air enters inside the filter through an inlet coupling.
  2. Then air moisture will be removed by the cyclone effect of the drain valve and then moisture-free air is supplied further.
  3. After that moisture-free air will pass through several layers of the air filter cartridge  then:
  • First layer of carded cotton will remove the particulates.
  • Layer of activated alumina absorbs oil and moisture.
  • A layer of activated charcoal removes bad odors.
  • A layer of felt material removes more particles
  • And at the end when respiratory will remove up to 98% of particles having a size of 0.5 microns or less
  • All the layers are protected into a corrosion-proof plastic case and then it does not require any use of a gasket.

After passing all the layers of filtration clean air will pass to the outlet coupling and through that, it will go inside the air conditioner.

Safety precautions while using Breathing Air Filter:

  • Filter replacement depends upon the frequency of filtering operations and on the quality of air in the system. Usually, filters should be replaced after every three months of operation.
  • Water removal should be done before the air enters the air conditioner.
  • Do not connect the filter to any source if you are not sure that it contains breathable air.

 Advantages of Air Breather Filter:

  • Allow oil vapor to escape
  • Improve the quality of air
  • More than one operator can operate at a time
  • Remove lung disease.

Q. What is the sand blasting process?

Ans.

Sand blasting is a surface cleaning process. With the help of a sand blasting machine rust, and foreign particles remove easily. Sand blasting machine in India is available both in automatic and manual types.

Q. Is sand blasting hard?

Ans.

Sand blasting is easy to perform. While blasting it is necessary to wear operator safety wears so it will protect the operator from hazards. A portable sand blasting machine is used in an open area for large size of components. A portable sand blasting machine in India is a manual and semi-automatic type. Airless sand blasting machines are automatic and manual type as well.

Q. What is the weight of the sand blasting machine?

Ans.

Sand blasting machine in India is available in many sizes. The weight of the sand blasting machine varies according to the size of the storage capacity tank. As the size of the capacity tank varies, sand blasting machine prices also vary.

Q. What is a sand blasting application?

Ans.

Sand blasting is a process of removing rust, old paint, burrs, and other impurities from the component surfaces. Sand blasting has a wide range of applications in many areas like wood, glass, steel, plastic, shipbuilding industries, on buildings, medical equipment, etc. Sand blasting machine in India also rough the smooth surface according to the application area.

Q. Where do we use sand blasting?

Ans.

Sand blasting machine uses in various areas such as:-

  • Railway coaches
  • Handicrafts and wood
