Sand Blasting Cabinet

Sandblasting cabinet is a different type of sandblasting machine which has a cabinet and is a closed or enclosed form of the machine. In that closed section blasting of contaminants as well as recycling of abrasive media takes place. There are various other functions which are included like cleaning, recycling as well as the collection of dust materials too.

Sand Blasting Cabinet is a cabinet consisting of many components used for sandblasting the substrate surface. Sandblasting is a process in which blasting abrasives is sand. Sandblasting Cabinet is a cabinet having in one feature. Sandblasting Cabinets we use this cabinet only for abrasives like 30/60 Mesh, Steel grit, Aluminum grit, Copper Slag, etc.

That is used for blasting on the surface of the substrate. Cabinet eliminates the requirement of safety equipment because the cabinet protects the operator from the microparticles of abrasive. There is no difference between the cabinet like Grit Blasting Cabinet, Sand Blasting Machines, Shot Blasting Machines. Cabinet differs only on behalf of Pressure, Wet & Suction Blasting Cabinet.

In front of the cabinet, it has a two-hole section in which we can put hands into gauntlets that have gloves for a blasting workpiece. Cabinet consists of a closed package of Dust collector, Sand Blasting Machine, Gloves, Sand Blasting Hopper, etc. Outside the cabinet when sandblasting is completed then there is an air gun for cleaning up residue particles from the surface of the workpiece.

Components of Sand Blasting Cabinet:

Sand Blasting cabinet typically consists of four components which are:

  • Cabinet
  • Abrasive blasting system
  • Abrasive recycling system
  • Dust collection

A reclaimer type collector is used to reclaim the abrasive used. A fabric bag type collector is a different type of collector having a fabric bag inside the collector in which abrasive or dust gets stuck. The fabric bag is vibrated with the help of an air compressor so that abrasive particles get recovered.

As we have many abrasives to use for blasting the surface of the substrate. On the basis of physical properties, shape, density, volume, size, surface behavior, Sieve analysis & Chemical analysis of abrasive. We have different types of abrasives like Garnet Sand, Garnet Mesh, Balls, Shots, Grits, Plastic abrasive, Aluminum oxide, Slag, Quartz Sand, and Silicon Carbide & Aluminum Silicate.

Types of Sandblasting Cabinet :

  • Suction Blasting Cabinet - Suction Blasting Cabinet works on the phenomenal process of suction. In this, the gun has two inlet holes, one for abrasive suction & another one for creating a vacuum. Vacuum creation forms a suction process inside the suction blasting gun.
  • Pressure Blasting Cabinet - In the Pressure Blast Cabinet Blasting Cabinet, There is a pressure pot at the bottom of the hopper. In Pressure, pot pressure is created towards the abrasive compressed air through a mixer tube. It requires 65-110 CFM & 6-7 kgf/cm 2 compressed air.
  • Wet Blasting Cabinet - In the Wet Blasting Cabinet, There is the same working as in the Suction Blasting Cabinet. But in this cabinet Water & compressed air both are used for the wet blasting process. It is cheaper than both Pressure & Suction as it uses water abrasive as a blasting media. In this, the pressure of compressed air is 35 CFM & 6-7 kgf/cm. It is used for Automobile components, Greasy Components that are soluble in water.
  • Dry Blasting Cabinet - It is not used because of oil & grease in automobile components. As abrasive get stuck on these greasy particles. That makes it harder to Dry blasting on these greasy workpieces. One of the main advantages of a Wet blasting machine is that it provides a shiny finish to the workpiece as compared to the other models of abrasive blasting.

Q. Is sand blasting hard?

Ans.

Sand blasting is easy to perform. While blasting it is necessary to wear operator safety wears so it will protect the operator from hazards. A portable sand blasting machine is used in an open area for large size of components. A portable sand blasting machine in India is a manual and semi-automatic type. Airless sand blasting machines are automatic and manual type as well.

Q. What is the weight of the sand blasting machine?

Ans.

Sand blasting machine in India is available in many sizes. The weight of the sand blasting machine varies according to the size of the storage capacity tank. As the size of the capacity tank varies, sand blasting machine prices also vary.

Q. What is a sand blasting application?

Ans.

Sand blasting is a process of removing rust, old paint, burrs, and other impurities from the component surfaces. Sand blasting has a wide range of applications in many areas like wood, glass, steel, plastic, shipbuilding industries, on buildings, medical equipment, etc. Sand blasting machine in India also rough the smooth surface according to the application area.

Q. Where do we use sand blasting?

Ans.

Sand blasting machine uses in various areas such as:-

  • Railway coaches
  • Handicrafts and wood
  • Steel pipes
  • Stones, Marbles, Granites
  • Transformers and Tanks
  • Military
  • Shipyards
  • Bridges
  • Turbines
  • Vehicle bodies, Automobiles, Turbocharges
  • Windmill
  • Casting, and forging

Q. What equipment is required for a sand blasting process?

Ans.

Q. How much air pressure is needed for the sand blasting machine?

Ans.

For a sand blasting machine process minimum of 100 PSI air compressor is required. If work with a lower PSI cleaning rate of sand blasting machine in India is decreasing.

Q. Does sand blasting damage the component?

Ans.

Sand blasting machine in India gives surfaces a slightly textured profile. Sand blasting machine does not damage the component. Instead, sand blasting makes the component surface better so that thermal spray coating binds easily.

Q. What sand is best for the sand blasting process?

Ans.

In sand blasting most commonly used sand is white silica sand. Other blasting media such as aluminum oxide, glass beads, walnut shell, silicon carbide, etc are used in a sand blasting machine in India. Sand blasting machine price in India also vary as per the storage capacity of the tank.
